When You Are Done, You Are Done!

Posted by georgiannasaysjustdoyou on October 19, 2010

It is said that you will know when you are done.  Done with what?

–> Relationships, jobs, projects, just about anything (pick your issue)

Has anyone ever given you that feedback and you think, what the heck are they talking about?  All I know is I am stuck!

Having reached that point in different areas of my life, I can only reiterate that you will know.  Sorry, but it is the truth.  The challenge is in how you separate out what your true choices are versus the choices you have filtered into your personal menu.

There IS a difference.

Usually, the choices you think you have are the ones that fit within your comfort zone…the ones you think you can handle.  The more difficult choices to consider are the ones that take you outside of that zone.  Here is an example related to a job that you are done with:

You are done, but feel stuck because:  you are unhappy more than you are happy…you are losing sleep over work just about every night…you have a negative or unfulfilling ongoing experience with work or co-workers.  You feel that you are not likely to find another job that:  offers you the same kind of flexibility in schedules…offers you the benefit package you have now…will carry the same health plan…will give you as much vacation time.

Are these true barriers?  Or are they choices?  Even though you are unhappy every day and it causes you to lose sleep, if you stay, you are making a choice to trade off your happiness for these things.  Your fears may be based in reality, but is the trade-off worth it?  Are you just staying in your comfort zone?

Instead of focusing on what you stand to lose, perhaps you should make a list of what you stand to gain.  Would losing a weeks vacation be worth sanity and happiness?  Would even a pay-cut be worth regaining your passion and purpose at work?  Some of you may say no, but eventually some of you get to a yes…and that is when you know you are truly DONE.

I don’t have answers, but I always have thoughts.  Won’t you share yours?

  1. More examples of what you can change and accomplish for your life if you’re in touch with your Authentic Self and identify want you truly desire. This is also where the courage to make the changes comes from.

    Thanks Georgianna..
