Don’t Beat Yourself Up

Posted by georgiannasaysjustdoyou on June 10, 2010

The world does that enough.  Ever find that you are your worst critic?  No one will be as harsh on you as you are.  You can get fifty compliments throughout a day, and yet, when you come home at the end of the day you are fixated on the one person who said something negative.  You start picking yourself apart.  Let’s suppose you don’t pick yourself apart, but that criticism got to you and made you feel sad.

Instead, you have forty-nine compliments that could be giving you peace of mind.  Take the compliments gracefully and then take them in.

Sometimes we have bad days and we screw things up royally.  Remember that you cannot undo what you have done or unsay what you have said.  The only thing you can do is figure out how you are going to move forward.  What is your next move?

Spending time beating yourself up is a wasted exercise.  It is good to be real with yourself and own your mistake and possibly figure out what you can learn about yourself from it.  But throwing a pity party for yourself is not helpful and serves no one.

You can be your strongest ally.  Be good to yourself and focus on the positive.  Have a go to friend that you can go to when you need an injection of love and positive energy.

What are some strategies you use for staying focused on the positive?

I don’t have the answers, but I always have thoughts.  Won’t you share yours?
