You Are What You Wear…

Posted by georgiannasaysjustdoyou on May 11, 2010

What?  Same concept as you are what you eat.  Have you ever woken up and said to yourself, today I am going to bum around and do nothing?  So you get out of bed (or not) and stay in your pajamas all day.  Naturally you take naps throughout the day…I mean after all, you are in your pajamas.  Rarely do pajama days turn into “clean the whole house” days…

The same concept applies for your every day.  What you wear can help you relax, give you energy, make you feel sexy or make you feel like a grub.  You should be intentional.

Part of this message is about self-care and the other part is about what message you are putting out to the world.  If you are feeling down, instead of caving to the desire to wear frumpy clothes that don’t make you feel good, dress up and put on something that people have complimented you on before.

You wouldn’t show up to a white collar job interview in jeans and a t-shirt (though I have actually seen that happen).  You dress in a way that sends the message:  you are confident, competent and energetic.  Nothing is wrong with jeans and a t-shirt either.  The right pair can actually do a lot for your mood, make you look sexy even.  however, there is a time and a place for everything.

Be conscious of the messages you send out, not only in what you are saying, but also in what you are wearing.  The whole dress code thing happens for a reason.  Employers want to make sure clients get a specific message.  It could be a uniform, a suit requirement, a no jeans requirement, etc.  There is always intent in developing a code.

Be intentional in your own choices, always.

I don’t have the answers, but I always have thoughts.
